Meek Millz: Flamers 2

Flamers 2 is flooding the streets of the Philadelphia. My last trip home, I could hear Meek Mill spilling out of car systems everywhere, from North Philly to South Philly. Meek is combining that Philly aggression and flow with those southern beats and he is holding it down strong for Grand Hustle.

The mixtape starts off with the song “Shinen” where Meek is introduced by the king himself, T.I. This track has Meek boasting about how he is basically the spotlight of the streets, much like a street light at night. He backs up this clout with lines like “no one on the corner got a swagger like this, when I step up in the hood, I’m good, real shit” and “ 5-10 is what the haters had planned for me, more money is what the maker had planned for me, but I’m back now watch the hood chant for me!”

Next we get into the radio banger “I’m So Fly”. On Friday and Saturday night, in the clubs of Philly is where you can hear this track being pumped through speakers. Meek continues combining that northern flow with the southern hooks and song concepts. The chanting of “I get, get, get it, money I get” can keep you bouncing and raising them bottles up in the club. Meek definitely gives listeners a few club bangers to choose from, including “Prolli” and “I’m Back”, both featuring Oschino, and the summer smash “In My Bag”.

Meek makes sure he provides listeners with variety. Besides the mix of club bangers, he gives intense gangster tracks (the shoot’em up, drug conflict tracks). For instance, there is “Goons Gone Wild” featuring Philly rapper AR-AB. This is the equivalent of Jay-Z and Beanie Sigel’s “Its On” -from the B. Coming album- with less verses, but equivalent lyrical impact. He also gives you those trap songs such as “We Getting Money” and “Trappin all Day” featuring two of Major Figgas finest, Gillie da Kid and Bumpy J. Of course he provides the ladies with their portion. With songs like “36-24-36 Bad Body” and “So Many Girls” Meek is sure too keep the females in his bag.

With guest appearances from various standout Philly artist, such as GDK, Peedi Crakk, and Oschino, Meek definitely is being supported by his hometown, not too mention T.I. and Grand Hustle cosigning almost every track.

In addition to the great production from DJ the Difference, Charlie Mack, Jungle Beats, and others, the track ordering also helps the energy Meek brings to beats. The order of the tracks is like a build up or intensification. Track one will have you nodding but by track 23 you bouncing in your car shouting “yeah, Meek Millie”. At the moment, it’s safe to say, a few people will agree with Meek Mill and call him the “Hottest in the City”.
